Of every surface in a car, the shift knob is the densest point of interaction: touched on every drive, hundreds of times, almost always without looking. It is small enough to be made exceptionally well by a small team, and demanding enough to establish a product language — form, material, serviceability — that every later CORVO object must live up to.
Drivers experience a car through their hands long before they read its spec sheet. A control that feels right — the correct mass, the correct balance, a surface that neither slips nor scratches — changes the drive in a way no styling can. CORVO designs for the hand first and the camera last.
Cars change; good objects shouldn't expire with them. CORVO-001 carries its vehicle threads in a replaceable insert so the same body can move from a Miata to whatever comes next. The Miata is the gateway, not the destination — for the brand and for the hardware.
6061 aluminum, titanium, brass — real metals that wear honestly and age well, finished to be touched rather than photographed. And every CORVO assembly is meant to come apart on purpose: repairable, adjustable, serviceable with ordinary care, decades from now.
Beyond 001
CORVO-001 establishes the form vocabulary — machined metal, continuous curvature, quiet branding — that future driver-interface pieces will inherit. Concepts under exploration include shift boot retainers, parking-brake handles, HVAC knobs, and door-lock pulls. None are announced products; all must earn the same standard.
Provenance
Roadster Republic is an automotive community built around lightweight, open-top sports cars — stories, routes, and the people who drive them. Open roads, open tops. CORVO is where that community’s standards become machined objects: Roadster Republic tells the stories; CORVO engineers the hardware.
